DOS as a firewall/router?

I've been looking around the last few weeks to see if DOS can be used a firewall/router device? I did find mention of some software that does routing but was made for amateur radio.

I'm also trying to find out how DOS handles multiple network cards, but haven't been able to find any references to this at all.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.
